Sam Aronson is among the leaders of Scouting's efforts to become a more welcoming place for historically marginalized groups. He shares what that experience has been like so far.
Scouting was not founded for straight, white, wealthy Christian men; it was founded by boys in England who got ahold of Baden-Powell’s book. Under Baden-Powell, the World Scouting movement was multi-national and multi-cultural from its inception.
I would like to know more about the listening circles that were held with "Scouts from non-dominant faith traditions". I didn't know about those but would have liked to participate. I am a leader in the Unitarian Universalist Association's (UUA) nascent BSA committee - the UUA is one of those under-represented non-dominant faith traditions. In addition to that work with the UUA and BSA I am also a leader in efforts to open up inclusivity to all religious traditions including those who could be classified as "nones".
